"'Still Life' at the Penguin Café"

DETAILS
It is our pleasure to present an exciting double bill for the new season. We hope you will enjoy both the bright and colourful "Theme and Variations" by George BALANCHINE, and charming but satirical masterpiece, "'Still Life' at the Penguin Café" by David BINTLEY.
"Theme and Variations"
Produced by George BALANCHINE in 1947, this work is well known as a homage to Pyotr TCHAIKOVSKY and the ballet of imperial Russia. This is a graceful and dignified piece, in which TCHAIKOVSKY's music is delicately expressed through the steps and movements. The National Ballet of Japan has performed this work a number of times since its premiere in 2000, and it has been very well received for the beauty of the ensemble. Come and enjoy choreography of BALANCHINE, lauded as "music for the eyes".
"'Still Life' at the Penguin Café"
Set to the disarming avant-pop music of the Penguin Café Orchestra, a world music ensemble that was a sensation in the 1980s, and performed by dancers in realistic animal masks, this work has an underlying message about modern environmental issues and a scathing criticism of civilisation.
[Covid-19] Our Prevention Plan and Request to Our Patrons
The performances will be taking place based on the policies of the Japanese government and the Tokyo Metropolitan government, along with the guideline for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 infection by the Association of Public Theatres and Halls in Japan.
