DETAILS
Performed in 2025 at the Royal Opera House in London to great acclaim, Giselle makes a triumphal return to Japan this season with performances in Fukuoka and Hyogo. Yoshida, together with British choreographer Alastair Marriott, who has a long time successful career at the Royal Ballet, worked to recreate one of the most enduring masterpieces of 19th century romantic ballet. The production features lighting by Rick Fisher and a spectacular set by Dick Bird, providing a backdrop for this evergreen tale of love, betrayal, forgiveness and redemption.
SYNOPSIS
The peasant girl Giselle learns that her lover is in fact a nobleman named Albrecht, who is betrothed to Bathilde, and is so shocked that she goes mad and eventually dies. At night, in the woods, Albrecht visits Giselle's grave and is almost killed by the Wilis, vengeful spirits; but Giselle, who still loves him even after her death, intervenes to save him from her fellow spirits.
