DETAILS
This masterpiece composed by Giuseppe VERDI in his later years is a grand historical drama set to dignified music, portraying the forbidden love between the prince Don Carlo and Elisabetta and the rivalry between Carlo and his father, King Filippo II. In doing so, it explores the themes of jealousy, betrayal and friendship. The opera brims with famous arias, including "Nel Giardin del bello (Song of the Veil)" and "O don fatale" by La Principessa d'Eboli, the king's sorrowful aria "Ella giammai m'amò" and Elisabetta's "Tu che la vanità" The duets are both comradely, as between Carlo and Rodrigo, and dramatic, as between Elisabetta and the prince. The stage directed by Marco Arturo MARELLI uses symbolic crosses and enclosed spaces reminiscent of prison.
Conducting will be by maestro Paolo CARIGNANI, who has an enthusiastic following in Japan, while the title role is taken on by Giuseppe GIPALI, who established himself as a Verdian tenor much in demand. The talented line up also includes TSUMAYA Hidekazu in the role of Filippo II, TAKADA Tomohiro, who impressed audiences in Asters plays the lead role of Rodrigo, Elisabetta will be performed by KOBAYASHI Atsuko who recently enthralled the audience with the role of Sieglinde in R.WAGNER's Die Walküre, Anna Maria CHIURI, who has mesmerised the world with her dramatic voice and charisma in the role of La Principessa d'Eboli, and TSUMAYA Hidekazu, one of the most important bass singers in Japan, in the role of Filippo II.
*Please note that we will modify a part of the original production into a new normal style version.

SYNOPSIS
Elisabetta, fiancée of Don Carlo, heir to the Spanish throne, is instead joined in a political marriage to Don Carlo's father, Filippo II. The heartbroken Don Carlo is persuaded by his friend Rodrigo to take up the cause of independence for the people of Flanders suffering under Spanish tyranny, but is thrown in prison as a traitor.
La Principessa d'Eboli, who is also in love with Don Carlo and thus harbors violent jealousy for Elisabetta, betrays Elisabetta to the King. Meanwhile, Don Carlo is freed, but must still bid farewell forever to Elisabetta.
As he is doing so, the King discovers the couple and orders their arrest, but before this can happen, the ghost of Carlo V appears and draws Don Carlo with him into the tomb.
