DETAILS
This is the first in our "Bridge to the Future" series presenting new works by Japanese playwrights.
The Royal Court Theatre in London, known as "the writer's theatre", has held international workshops for up and coming playwrights around the globe. In May 2019, we partnered with them to bring these workshops to Japan for the very first time.
With a history spanning more than 60 years, as the "national theatre for new plays", Royal Court has nurtured many young talents. Under the International Playwrights Programme of the Royal Court Theatre, associate directors, the literary manager and playwrights hold workshops overseas. Held in four phases over two years, 14 young playwrights participated in this Japan workshop. Through discussions and redrafting, and involvements of directors and actors in the final phase, each playwright developed a new play.
We are proud to present My Month by SUGAI Ei, conceived through this development process. The production will be directed by INABA Kae of Bungakuza, one of the most notable young directors of her generation and director of the 2018 production The Misunderstanding at the New National Theatre, Tokyo.
