Ágota KRISTÓFWriter / Playwriter
Born in Hungary in 1935. During the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, she was forced to leave her home country and then settled in Neuchâtel in Switzerland until her death in July 2011.
She started to write in French there and at the age of 51 (in 1986) published her first novel in French "The Notebook" from Éditions du Seuil. This work achieved great success and has been translated into more than 20 languages.
In 1988 and 1991 she released two following novels "The Proof" and "The Third Lie" respectively and thus completed the trilogy.
Her other representative works include "The Monster", "The Epidemic", her autobiography "The Illiterate" and short stories titled "C'est égal".
