In the silence

  • 2012/2013 Season
  • Performed in Japanese
  • THE PIT

We knew we wanted to get Nagatsuka Keishi to write and direct a special project, the kind that could only happen here. The possibilities were explored in a series of discussions over several years. A diverse group of artists came together for the project, and the performers worked with one another for nearly a year in workshops and discussions to develop this piece which fuses elements of theatre, dance and music.
Otono Inai Sekaide is slated to open just before Christmas, timed to encourage attendance by the widest possible audience. We want children, their parents, and people of all stripes to see the play and experience it live and in person.
It's a show sure to please even kids and older children, so we'd love to see you there!

SYNOPSIS

Christmas Eve.
Sei's bag has been stolen. It means a lot to her, and the shock of the theft makes her world go silent.
She has "lost" all sound; she can no longer hear the voice of her dear husband,
nor can she speak herself.
Sei sets out on her own, to get the bag back.
She follows the trail of the man who took it,
as the season turns to spring, then summer, then fall.
When Sei goes away her husband is traumatized,
and his world goes silent, too.
He sets out to find his wife.
He keeps walking, the seasons changing around him.
Will they ever meet again?
And just what is in this stolen bag, anyway?
This strange tale will be waiting for you to unwrap on Christmas Eve.
