To our greatest despair
Carlos Alvarez has been forced to cancel his appearance
in the role as Gerard of the opera Andrea Chénier
due to a severe virus infection. He and his doctors tried
their best to cure the sickness as fast as possible, but
the recovery will take much more time. From the bottom of
his heart he apologizes to the audience for causing such
inconvenience with his sickness.
The part of Carlo Gerard will be taken over
by the world famous baritone Sergei Leiferkus, who made
it possible to come on short notice even though his schedule
was very tight. New National Theatre Tokyo is very grateful
for his great friendship and his respect to the audience
of Japan and this theatre.
We are all looking forward to an outstanding premiere of
Andrea Chénier.
