Running time is to be announced

NNT Drama Studio was established in April 2005 with the objective of training the next generation of theatre actors. The programme is led by a faculty of experts in theatrical education and prominent theatre makers from of Japan and overseas.

This October, students entered in 2016 will present "After a Sewing Machine Jumped Out of Tomie's Skirt" written by a Japanese playwright MIYOSHI Juro, directed by TANAKA Maiko. The play will be staged for the first time since its premiere in 1951.

Set in postwar Japan, the play depicts the stormy life of Tomiko (called Tomie) and her friends.

Tomie, a woman of the street, decides to cut all ties with her current profession and finds a way to earn her living by dressmaking using a sewing-machine she bought with hard-earned money. Once a newspaper journalist exposes her past, however, she was forced to move from one temporary job to another and eventually starts to work at a show tent.
Come and watch how she continues to live her life to the fullest.
