We are presenting a series of re-translated works entitled "JAPAN MEETS...A Look at the Lineage of Contemporary Drama", which addresses the topic of how Japanese drama has evolved through contact with Western drama. We are using fresh translations to bring new life to a number of foreign plays that have had a major impact on modern Japanese drama.

The 11th play in this series is William SAROYAN's "The Time of Your Life", which premiered in New York in 1939 and won both New York Drama Critics' Circle Award and Pulitzer Prize (which SAROYAN turned down).

In this work, SAROYAN, optimistically and with confidence in the fundamental core of humanity, portrays the admirable beauty of down-to-earth people who try to remain true in the face of adversity, living on the outskirts of society in an age when war is looming.

Directed by NNTT Artistic Director of Drama MIYATA Keiko and translated by URABE Chizuru, who won the Odashima Yushi Award for Drama Translation for her translation of "Constellations".
