Running time is To Be Announced

Tatoeba Nonisaku Hananoyouni (Like Wild Flowers) was first directed by the former artistic director, UYAMA Hitoshi, in 2007 as a second offering of the staging of Three Tragedies from Greece in the first year of his appointment. CHONG Wishing, the playwright, found new inspiration in the experience of creating "Plays that Record History" and, owing to it, set himself to writing the sequels, Parmaya Sumire (Sumire's Hair Salon) and Yakiniku Dragon.

The setting is a port town in Kyushu at the time of the Korean War, and depicted here is the love relationship--extreme to the point of suffocation--between four people, girls and boys. This is the second in the trilogy of works by CHONG Wishing that ran from the first staging in October 2007 for eight years running. It is presented here with a new cast.

Synopsis

The scene is a run-down dancehall in the summer of 1951 in F prefecture, Kyushu. Maki is working, recalling memories of what was her husband-to-be, fallen in war. Yasuo, who runs a newly opened rival establishment, and his younger buddy, Naoya, turns up.

Yasuo feels somewhat ill at ease about using his experiences on the battlefield he has returned from in order to lead his life, a feeling shared by Maki. He falls head over heels in love with Maki, but she stubbornly refuses his advances. Akane, who is engaged to Yasuo, notices a change in him towards her. While resentful of him, she cannot stem the love that he has awakened in her. Naoya has also set his heart on winning over Akane.

This one-way love quadrangle finds no resolution, getting only more and more tangled.
