The Chikamatsu Dance is a contemporary dance performance presented for the first time in four seasons, and takes as its theme the dramatist, and pride of Japan, CHIKAMATSU Monzaemon.
Program A features the work "EGOISM" themed on his play, The Love Suicides at Sonezaki. In it, KAGAYA Kaori dances with a group of four enticing male performers in a piece that speaks of "Eros and Death" through dance, music and storytelling. Egoism was awarded a prize at its first showing in November 2011, at the Sixth Japan Dance Forum. This is its much anticipated repeat performance.
Program B is a piece entitled "CHIKAMATSU no ONNA" and is performed by three female dancers who occupy leading places in the worlds of traditional Japanese dance, ballet and flamenco. They portray the women who appear in CHIKAMATSU's works and vie with other in beauty.
