Together with The Nutcracker, this work is a favourite with a wide range of audiences in the Christmas NBJ repertoire. This ballet, choreographed by Frederick ASHTON is still seen as the "traditional" Cinderella staging, and is performed by the Royal Ballet (London) and many other ballet companies around the world. In Japan, however, it is staged by the NBJ alone, thereby occupying a valuable place in its repertoire.
Sergei PROKOFIEV, known also for his composition of Romeo and Juliet, composed colourful melodies and rhythms for Cinderella, making the music a great point of appeal for this piece. Fitting for the Christmas season, it will inspire a happy mood in all who see it with its fairies of the four seasons dancing to the sumptuous music, the surprising transformation of Cinderella when the clock strikes midnight, and the comical miming of the evil sisters throughout the whole piece.
