La Cenerentola

SYNOPSIS

ACT I. At Don Magnifico's house. Angelina (also known as Cenerentola) is treated like a slave by her sisters-in-law, Clorinda and Tisbe. She gives water and food to a beggar who comes to the door. The beggar is really prince Ramiro's tutor Alidoro in disguise. Prince Ramiro, in disguise as his valet, arrives at the house. He sees Angelina and he instantly falls in love with her. Ramiro's servant, Dandini, then arrives and is introduced as the prince, and he invites the sisters to the ball. Angelina pleads with her stepfather, Magnifico, to let her go to the ball, but he insists that she remain at home. The sisters fight over Dandini at the ball, but are taken aback by the beautiful mysterious woman (who is Angelina).

ACT II. Inside the castle. Prince Dandini declares his love for Angelina, but she rejects him and says that she is in love with the prince's valet. Upon hearing this revelation, Ramiro comes out and declares his love for her. She gives Ramiro a bracelet and tells him that he must figure out who she is, and then she disappears from the castle. Back at the house, Don Magnifico and her stepsisters insult Angelina. Prince's carriage breaks down in front of the house in a storm, and prince Dandini enters the mansion. Ramiro soon follows, he then recognizes Angiolina by the bracelet, and he takes her back to the castle. Angelina publicly forgives Don Magnifico and her stepsisters as she sings "Nacqui all'affano...Non piu mesta" in the finale.
