Ambassadors and representatives of cultural organizations attended "Madama Butterfly"

President OZAKI Motoki

We have been inviting Ambassadors and Representatives of Cultural Organizations from different countries, and have been organizing a reception twice a year.
It was such a great honour for us that so many distinguished guests have accepted our invitation to the performance of Giacomo PUCCINI's "Madama Butterfly" and I have expressed my gratitude for all the support they have been showing us throughout the year.

The production of "Madama Butterfly"
first premiered at our theatre in 2005 and has been in our repertoire ever since.

As we choose our singers on artistic merit and not by nationality, this is only the second time we were able to cast a Japanese singer in the title role.

We are particularly proud of Ms. Fumiko ANDO singing Madama Butterfly today, as one of my basic principles of runnning this theatre is "To Contribute in Developing Theatre Practitioners". 14 years after graduating our Opera Studio, the training programme of our theatre, she has become one of the leading singers of the operatic world and came back to us, now ready to sing the lead at our opera house.

This year, we will be celebrating 20 years since this theatre was founded. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation for these years and would like to ask for your continued support in the future.

My staff and I await for your visit to the New National Theatre Tokyo.
