A masterpiece of opera produced by the NNTT.
The "Rokumeikan" was originally a masterpiece of a play written by Mishima Yukio, but it has been skillfully re-produced by Ikebe Shinichiro into a dramatic opera. The opera, that had its world premiere as a newly commissioned work at the NNTT and made a splash in 2010, will return to the NNTT this season. This love-hate drama of a parent and child's relationship unfurls in the setting of the gorgeous Rokumeikan. In the ballroom scene of the fourth act, breathless, dramatic music plays while a masked crowd dances an eerie Waltz, adding a tremendous boost to the drama. Making his NNTT debut will be conductor Iimori Norichika, who is working actively both in Japan and abroad. Powerful singers who represent the best of Japanese opera will meet together on this stage as well.
