A tale of loss and recovery that unfurls in the atmosphere of fin-de-siècle decadence.
The magnum opus of Erich Wolfgang Korngold finally appears at the NNTT. In the historical Belgian city of Bruges, Paul meets a woman who is a spitting image of his late wife. "Die tote Stadt" fantastically illustrates the tale of his perverted time. Korngold enjoyed great success as a prodigy in Vienna in the early 20th century, but soon after was buffeted by the winds of his era and forced to flee for America, where he became famous as a film music composer. Korngold's music is in the style of post-romanticism, which is reminiscent of R. Strauss and Mahler, and his sweet melodies and rich orchestral music are appealing. We proudly present an outstanding cast, including Torsten Kerl as Paul, who is singing the same role all over the world. This is an unmissable performance for opera fans.
