A hot new work and a timeless masterpiece… Enjoy Bintley's world!
We present two works choreographed by David Bintley: "Faster" is a work inspired by the Olympic Games, which premiered in Britain in June 2012 and gained a high reputation; the other work is a popular repertoire, "Carmina Burana", which became the catalyst to connect Bintley and the National Ballet of Japan.

[Faster] (Japan Premiere)
In 2012 I created my most recent work, 'Faster', to celebrate the London Olympic Games. The ballet was inspired by the Olympic Motto, "Faster, Higher, Stronger", and is an exploration of both the agony and ecstasy of Olympian sports men and women.
In every piece I make I try to create something fresh and unique, and in 'Faster' I challenged myself to synthesize the kinetic aspect of Sport with that of Dance. In sport, movement is the by-product of the main aim, which is to score a goal or point, cross the finish tape first or launch one’s body or a projectile further or higher than one’s rival, but in that effort the sportsman can effect movement of great grace and beauty. In Dance that grace and beauty, achieved with apparent effortlessness, is the primary aim.
'Faster' is divided into three sections. The first covers the panoply of sports that comprise the main areas of the modern Olympics and which I group together as 'Throwers', 'Aerials','Teams' 'Fighters' and 'Swimmers'.
The second section is given over to the Fighters and the fight in question is not only an adversarial one, but also a 'fight' back to health or form, from injury.
The third part, 'Marathon', was the biggest challenge for me and is an attempt to create a whole large dance section purely on the movement of running. Dancers are more accustomed to performing in pointe shoes than sneakers!
From the London Olympics of 2012, via Brazil in 2016, the baton of friendly sports rivalry is passed and 'Faster' is my congratulatory message to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

[Carmina Burana]
The sensational ballet "Carmina Burana" fuses the world of Medieval German secular songs and British pop culture and was performed at the NNTT in 2005 & 2010, attracting tremendous interest. In the melody of cantata, Carmina Burana, composed by Orff, it depicts how three seminarians are swept up by secular lust. Its dramatic music, including three soloist singers, will satisfy music lovers as well. In combination with Bintley's strong, witty choreography, this performance will surely please many audiences.
