The crowning work of classical ballet worth watching any number of times will be performed in the distinctive, high quality NNTT style.
"Swan Lake" has won enormous popularity among classical ballets due to Tchaikovsky's lyrical music and its captivating dance. Our former artistic director, Maki Asami, revised and re-choreographed the original NNTT production in 2006. In this production, a prologue was added to highlight the sad destiny of Odette, so that the beautiful love story can be portrayed with more texture. Another feature is that the scene of Russkaya, an often-omitted Russian dance, will be performed by a solo leading dancer. British artist Peter Cazalet will beautifully decorate the stage with a modern and sophisticated chromatic sensation. Our audiences tell us that even though they have watched this work again and again, they still discover something new each time. The advanced techniques and the deep expression of the lead dancers, and the beauty of the ensemble of corps de ballet, can surely reaffirm the attractiveness of the National Ballet of Japan.
