Nobel Prize winning writer Pirandello’s unfinished masterpiece drama will be directed by French artist Georges Lavaudant, who was the Artistic Director at Théâtre de l’Odéon in Paris. The cast is full of Japan’s very finest actors. Enjoy the production that will fully utilize the medium that is theatrical arts. “I Giganti della montagna” is Pirandello’s unfinished novel that is considered a masterpiece play. Life and art, individual and society, reality and dreams, these sometimes opposing themes are mythically contrasted in this “fairly tale for adults”. What is the “mountain”? Who are the “giants”? It portrays a disillusioned magician, who lives in an abandoned mountain villa, whereupon an unknown theatrical company makes a visit, and from this exchange we can see Pirandello’s sincere message to society. The director Lavaudant is famous for “creating beautiful, dreamy images”. He is the most appropriate director for this surreal and spiritual play, “I Giganti della montagna”, and it will be interesting to see how Lavaudant will handle the unfinished epilogue of this work. The role of the magician in the mountain goes to Hira Mikijiro who is a leader in the Japanese theatrical world and this will be his NNTT debut. Beautiful and talented actress Asami Rei will be the theatre owning Count’s wife and the principal actress of the theatre company visiting the mountain. Supporting cast comprises colorful characters including Tezuka Toru, Ayata Toshiki, Otaka Akira, Uemoto Jun, and Tane Rakuko.
