The time is finally ripe, and Suzuki Tadashi, the internationally renowned
dramaturge, theorist and performing arts educator, at last brings his work to
the New National Theatre, Tokyo for a historic series of performances of world
masterpieces entitled "On the Dramatic Passion." Three plays will rotate between
The Pit and Playhouse of New National Theatre, Tokyo: Cyrano de Bergerac, Oedipus
Rex, and Ivanov, shedding fresh light on their fundamental themes through Suzuki's
keen insight into the essence of their narratives. With Oidipous played by a German
actor, and the part of Roxanne in Cyrano to be given to an unknown heroine chosen
in competitive auditions, this series promises to bring an innovative and intense
theatrical experience to the stage of the New National Theatre, Tokyo.
