handbill [Ballet Preljocaj] Ballet Preljocaj, which was well received by the audience for its performance of Helikopter and The Rite of Spring - Le Sacre de Printemps at the NNTT in 2003, will appear at the theatre again.Their latest work, N in Program A reflects Preljocaj's anger and despair about the crimes committed by the world. This is very contemporary and integrates images, music, and dancing. This high-profile work uses transcendent dance techniques to represent the dignity of mankind, purity and impurity, virtual reality, and other ideas in relation to various events that are occurring in the world today, and appeals to the sensitivity of the audience.N was first performed in France in 2004 and quickly evoked a powerful reaction.Program B, meanwhile, features Les 4 saisons..., which was only recently premiered, in the summer of 2005. Against a background of The Four Seasons, Vivaldi's famous violin concertos, Preljocal celebrates life cheerfully and expresses his desire to free himself from all that restricts him. This is an attractive yet slightly spiteful work full of vitality which can only be created by Preljocaj. Programs A and B feature two of the latest works by the French dancer and choreographer, who is at the forefront of dancing, in both name and reality. The first performances of these works in Japan should not be missed.

* The performance of N includes loud low-frequency sounds and stroboscopic effects, which are not recommended for infants, pregnant women, epileptics, and people who have pacemakers or use hearing aids.

Angelin Preljocaj
In 1984, Angelin Preljocaj founded his own group, Preljocaj Company. In 1985, he won the Ministry of Culture Award at the 17th Bagnolet International Choreography Competition for his work Marché Noir (Black Market). Always ahead of the times, he has published one work after another as the leading French contemporary dancer and choreographer. He choreographed Romeo and Juliet for the Lyon National Opera Ballet in 1990 (which received the Prix Benois de la Danse) and Le Parc (The Park) for the Paris Opera Ballet in 1994 and Casanova for the same ballet company in 1998. In addition, the Paris premiere of Les Noces (The Marriages), Parade, and Spectre de la Rose (The Spirit of the Rose), published under the title "Homage aux Ballets Russes," evoked a massive response as a brilliant success and was later performed in various countries worldwide. The Preljocaj Company was renamed the Ballet Preljocaj in 1995. His activities cover a wide range of areas, and his past engagements include choreographing La Stravaganza for the 50th anniversary of the New York City Ballet in 1997 as well as working for distinguished ballet companies in Europe. In recent years, he has established a dialogue between the dancer's body and its image, publishing MC14/22, Helicopter, and Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) in 2001, Near Life Experience in 2003, N in 2004, and Les 4 saisons...(The Four Seasons) in 2005. His creative activities are unique, making him one of the most internationally acclaimed of the European choreographers.
