I Can't Wait till
Night. I Want to Fly Down to You
|
A swan comes down upon a lake and when night falls is transformed into a noble
and beautiful woman. Through such a pure and chaste image, Swan Lake
symbolically portrays the love and death of human beings. Tchaikovsky's dramatic
music and the masterful choreography of Petipa and Ivanov, which brings together
the essence of classic ballet techniques, have combined to create an enduring
masterpiece which remains tremendously popular throughout the world---so much
so that Swan Lake has become synonymous with ballet today. The NNTT adopts
the Sergeyev version, which has carried the quintessence of the original choreography
to the present day and has an established reputation as the standard version.
Since the first performance by NNTT in 1998, Swan Lake has been performed
in every season. It is a part of the repertoire that the New National Theatre
Ballet is especially proud to present to you. With each performance, the ballet
is imbued with new sensibility and never fails to deeply move the audience. In
this season, dancers will give lively performances of the work at the beginning
of the New Year.

Synopsis
One night, Prince Siegfried meets Princess Odette by the lake and falls in love with her. Turned into a swan by the magician Rothbart, the princess is restored to human form only at night. The prince makes up his mind to rescue her and swears eternal love for her. However at the ball, he begs to marry Odile, daughter of the magician, who is identical to Odette. He asks Odette's forgiveness and fights against his fate, and finally the love of the two breaks the spell. |
