The New National Theatre Ballet’s 2005/2006 season opens with the Japan premiere of Carmina Burana, a masterpiece by the choreographer David Bintley.
David Bintley is one of the choreographers who attract the most public attention today. He started to create works from an early stage of his career, inheriting the choreographic style of the Royal Ballet’s Ashton and MacMillan, and his talent is flourishing at the Birmingham Royal Ballet, of which he is currently artistic director. His works cover a wide range of subjects, including the full-length ballets, Arthur and Edward II, as well as humorous works like Still Life at the Penguin Café. First performed anywhere in 1995, its modern direction, the overwhelming power of its dance, as well as the violent upsurge of emotion brought by the energy of Carl Orff’s medieval music, made Carmina Burana a topic of conversation. This is the first time for a Japanese ballet company to include one of Bintley’s works in its repertoire. The production will open a new page in the history of the New National Theatre Ballet. With delightful performances by an orchestra, a chorus, and solo singers, it will give rise to a grand spectacle that can only be made possible by ballet.
“Carmina Burana ” is produced in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet. This production was first seen at the Birmingham Hippodrome on 27 September 1995” |

Double Performance / Dream Scene form RAYMONDA
Raymonda was premiered in October 2004 as an NNTT original version revised and directed by Maki Asami and won high praises for its delicate and splendid staging. A fantastic scene will be presented in which the heroine Raymonda meets again in a dream her lover Jean de Brienne, who joined the Crusades. In this famous scene, the audience will be able to thoroughly enjoydancing by the New National Theatre Ballet’s corps de ballet, which is highly rated for its technical skills and beautiful dancing, in addition of course to solo performances. |
