THE LOFT
---In order to pursue an even closer space for drama, the art of words, THE LOFT series, uses a space created by dividing the Pit into halves. Three works will be presented using actors and production staff that best suit this dense space. Discover new attractions in the power of words that drama has by feeling the very breath of the actors as they speak their lines.
Three people---a man and a woman from the city, both of whom are
ruled by money and avarice, as well as a strange former soldier---are
confined in an old air-raid shelter. As their slight hope for escape
dwindles, the three are driven to an extreme situation while having
a premonition of death and start to talk about their own stories,
and the results of their confinement... Tainai is a work
from the mature period of Miyoshi Juro, which depicts the true nature
of human beings and their intense conflicts, and it will present
an impressionable drama that asks what life and death mean. Following
Buoy, which was performed in February 2003, Artistic Director Kuriyama
Tamiya will direct the play, and the energy the appealing cast will
generate through their bodies and words alone will be more than
enough for the audience. This performance will allow the audience
to rediscover what drama can offer.
