The theatre company Ishinha (school of revolution) is well known
for its avant-garde outdoor plays that integrate language, body
expression, music and art.Under the leadership of its president Matsumoto Yukichi
and based in Osaka, the company has continued to conduct theatrical
activities that cannot be described within the normal sense
of the word Theatre.Playhouses
built by the company itself, dynamic stage designs, scripts
with the intonation of the Kansai dialect kept to irregular
rhythms and original music by Uchihashi Kazuhisa, who is highly
acclaimed for his improvisation overseas as well as in Japan
the company has combined all these elements to create performances
that embody comprehensive art.
Ishinha received the Asahi Performing Arts Award 2002 for its performance
of Kankara at the
site of a copper refinery on the isolated island of Inujima
in the Seto Inland Sea, but in the forthcoming production, it
will dare to present an indoor play in Tokyo. With stage sets constantly moving during the performance,
stage designs will serve as subjective scenes at one time and
as objective ones at another, as in film, effortlessly changing
the audience's viewpoint. The company will make full use of the stage mechanism of NNTT's
Playhouse in this "load movie on stage, further enhancing
the life-like artistic quality of the "jan-jan opera"
developed by the company. The audience is certain to experience
a mysterious excitement never felt before, as dream-like performances
promise to sharpen the senses throughout one's entire body
