LaTraviataVerdi's Flowing and Beautiful Music Depicts True Love and Agony.

One of the most popular works in the operatic repertoire, "La Traviata" is brimming with gems of arias and duets, such as "Libiamo ne' lieti calici (A bumper we'll drain)" and "Ah, fors' e lui (The one of whom I dreamed)." The music excels in portraying the personalities of the characters and in expressing their feelings, making La Traviata an innovative work in which Verdi acquired his own mode of expression. The finest example is a duet by Violetta and Germont in Act II that brilliantly shows the changes of their delicate feelings in musical terms.

Synopsis
Although at first the courtesan Violetta hesitates to accept Alfredo's love for her, she opens her heart to him. They have been living a quiet life in the suburb of Paris, but Alfredo's father Germont appears and persuades her to give up his son in order that no breath of scandal may attach to the forthcoming wedding of his daughter. Violetta decides to leave Alfredo forever because of her love for him and sets off for Paris. Having found that she has left him, he accuses her of her betrayal. It was already too late when all misunderstandings were removed, and the mortally ill Violetta dies in Alfredo's arms.
