The famous chorus "Va, Pensiero"
returns to the stage of New National Theatre, Tokyo.
Two daughters of Nabucco (Nebuchadnezzar), King of Babylonia. - One, Abigaille has been given birth by a slave, and the other, Fenena, whose mother is Queen, has been taken hostage by Israel, the enemy of Babylonia. The love and hatred between Ismaele who is a nephew of the King of Jerusalem, and the two daughters is intertwined in the story.
Nabucco is Verdi's third opera. With this work that takes its subject matter from the Bible and a historical fact - "the Babylonian captivity", Verdi has achieved his first great success as a composer. The opera is filled with youthful passion. Particularly, the choral lament "Va, Pensiero", which the Hebrews long for their lost homeland, is extremely popular and often considered as Italy's second national anthem. Impressive chorus composes a spectacular drama, set in ancient Babylonia and Jerusalem.
