AStar-Studded Cast to Herald the New Age
Ballet: Triple Bill is a showcase of ballet masterpieces. It offers a totally new type of delight unlike the narrative storytelling in the grand ballet. The new offering from the New National Theatre, Tokyo (NNTT) is Antony Tudor's Lilac Garden, a splendid portrayal of the delicate trepidation of emotion in the heroine forced into unwanted marriage amid clandestine relationships of her lover, her fiance, and her fiance's lover. In its London premiere in 1936, the work brought renewed recognition of the depth of artistic expression that ballet can produce. The extravagance of the program does not end there. Second is Theme and Variations, which has gained greater beauty in ensemble with each performance. Third in the program is Raymonda act 3, a lavish wedding dance performance led by the two leading dancers. Why not enjoy the star-studded array of principal dancers who appear in the three works as well as how the NNTT's ballet has grown.
