Background
Cavalleria rusticana (Rustic Chivalry) and I pagliacci (The Clowns) are two major verismo operas. Both are fine works characterized by the music that straightforwardly portrays the sentiments of the characters against the backdrop of southern Italy, full of local and religious color, and by the passionate and tense drama that moves the audience to tears. Look forward to the cast of talented singers and players who will produce powerful music, including the beautiful yet ‘pathetic’ interlude for Cavalleria rusticana and the heroic aria Vesti la guibba (On with the motley) in I pagliacci.
