Last year, Mr. Ioan Holender retired from his post as director of the Vienna State Opera. At the invitation of the New National Theatre, Tokyo, Mr. Holender will participate in a special event on April 9 (Sat.), "The Vienna State Opera 1992–2010: A Retrospective on 19 Years, Presented in Film and a Talk by Ioan Holender, Former Director of the Vienna State Opera" to be held at the New National Theatre's Opera Palace.
Mr. Ioan Holender served as the director of one of the world's finest opera houses, the Vienna State Opera, for 19 years—the longest tenure of any director at that renowned theater—during which time he staged more than 6,000 performances.
His efforts over that period have extended beyond Vienna to the broader opera world, and he has contributed to the development of Japan's music world, including the New National Theatre, Tokyo. In recognition of his tremendous contributions, he was awarded Japan's Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon in 2010.
Mr. Holender will reminisce about his days at the Vienna State Opera, displaying his refined wit as he talks about his interaction with Seiji Ozawa, Placido Domingo, Anna Netrebko, and other stars of the music industry and shares never-before-told stories. In addition, we will introduce video provided by the Vienna State Opera, including footage that has never been shown publicly in Japan.
