Cast Change of the ballet "La Bayadère"

As regards to the ballet performances of "La Bayadère" in January 2011, Svetlana Zakharova, who originally was to perform the role of Nikiya on the 15th and 18th of January has to cancel the performances due to her physical condition. Alternatively, Kobayashi Hikaru from the Royal Ballet is going to take her place and dance the leading role of the ballet. Kobayashi Hikaru was born in Tokyo. She was trained at the Star Dancers Ballet School in her early ages and from 1992 to 1995 at the Paris Opera Ballet School. In 1995 she joined the Jeune Ballet de France. In 1996 she joined the Zurich Ballet and in 1999 the Dutch National Ballet. She has won the Grand Prix in Concours Internationale de Cvignale in 1998 In 2003 she joined The Royal Ballet as a First Artist. She was promoted to Soloist in 2006, and to First Soloist in 2009. Her repertoire includes the leading role of Princesse Aurora in the Monica Mason and Christopher Newton production of The Sleeping Beauty and Gamzatti in Natalia Makarova’s production of La Bayadère. She has also danced Pas de trois in Anthony Dowell’s production of Swan Lake, Myrtha and Pas de Six in Peter Wright’s production of Giselle, Blue Bird Pas de Deux and Floristan Pas de Trois in the Monica Mason and Christopher Newton production of The Sleeping Beauty, first and third solo Shade in Natalia Makarova’s production of La Bayadère. Hikaru's repertoire includes many different styles and choreographers including: Calliope in Apollo, Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, Pas de Trois in Agon, First Theme in The Four Temperaments by Balanchine, Concerto pas de Deux by MacMillan, Thais by Ashton, The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude and Approximate Sonata by Forsythe, Four Last Songs by Van Danzig, Five Tangos and Sarcasmen by Van Manen Hikaru was a principal guest artist with the Tulsa Ballet and she has participated in numerous performances and galas around the world.
