Summer Festival Opera 2019-20 Japan↔Tokyo↔World
"Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" International Co-Production with Salzburg Easter Festival and Saxon State Opera



On the 21st of December 2017, the New National Theatre Tokyo and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan announced co-production opera "TURANDOT" in 2019 and "DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG" in 2020 as part of a project called "Summer Festival Opera 2019-20 Japan↔Tokyo↔World".

On the 26th of March 2018, it is newly announced that "DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG" will also be co-produced with Salzburg Easter Festival and Saxon State Opera, directed by Jens-Daniel HERZOG who will finish his directorship at the Dortmund Opera and succeed as State Intendant of the Staatstheater Nürnberg from 2018/19 Season.

Jens-Daniel HERZOG


Jens-Daniel HERZOG was a Director of Drama at the Nationaltheater Mannheim from 2000 to 2006 and
has been the Intendant of the Dortmund Opera since 2011. He has directed many works at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Zürich Opera House, Thalia Theater Hamburg, Burgtheater Wien and have been invited to international festivals such as Berlin Art Week and Mülheim Theater Festival.

His most recent productions include "Tannhäuser", "The Queen of Spades" "Orlando" and "Der ferne Klang" at the Zürich Opera House, "Così fan tutte" and "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, "Aida" and "Tosca" at Staatstheater Nürnberg, "Hamlet" at National Theater of Korea, "Lohengrin" at Oper Frankfurt, "Giulio Cesare in Egitt" at Semperoper Dresden, "The Flying Dutchman", "Don Giovanni", "Tristan und Isolde", "Rinaldo", "Otello", "Arabella" and "Nabucco" at the Dortmund Opera.
