Henrik IBSEN's Fruen fra havet (The Lady from the Sea) will be staged as the tenth part of the series, "JAPAN MEETS─A Look at the Lineage of Contemporary Drama". As with the first part of the series, Hedda GABLER, directed by MIYATA Keiko, The Lady from the Sea is presented in a new Japanese translation from the Norwegian by Anne Lande PETERS and NAGASHIMA Kaku.

Fruen fra havet was published in 1888 and first performed the following year simultaneously in Norway and Germany. The main character Ellida exudes mystique in her search for freedom and her hidden but oceanic vitality. She is played by ASAMI Rei, an actress known for the breadth of her repertoire. Ellida's husband Wangel, who encompasses Ellida in his expansive presence, will be played by MURATA Takehiro, who performed well in the production of A Long Line of Grave Stones.

After the Tokyo performances, The Lady from the Sea is to be staged outside Tokyo.
