The Pit

The story of four men and women in modern New York, revolving around a female war journalist, will premiere in Japan.

In an ongoing project, NNTT selects and mounts quality contemporary works from the US and Europe that have not been performed previously in Japan. The first in this series was our 2012 production of Sixteen Wounded, directed by Miyata Keiko. The second will be Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for his play, Dinner With Friends.

Time Stands Still premiered at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles in February 2009. In 2010, it played at the Manhattan Theatre Club, earning positive reviews from the New York Times and other media outlets. It was also nominated for two Tony Awards, for Best Play and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play.

The story revolves around a female journalist, who covered the Iraq War on the ground, and the life changes experienced by her friends and acquaintances. Time Stands Still has been performed in theatres in many countries in recent years; this will be the first time the play is performed in Japan.
