Nineteen-Year-Old Jacob

2013/2014 Season

performed in Japanese
The Pit

The first dramatization of the "Nineteen-year-old Jacob", a novel by Nakagami Kenji.
The adolescence trapped and buffeted by unfocused feelings will be vividly portrayed.

Writer Nakagami Kenji never forgot Roji, a discriminated area where he came from. He wrote about human karma and other subjects in works that teemed with life. Now, 20 years after Nakagami died at the young age of 46, up-and-coming playwright Matsui Shu has adapted this Nakagami novel into a play. Directing the production will be Matsumoto Yukichi, of the inimitable Ishinha theatre company of Osaka. Ishinha has been putting on dynamic outdoor plays for roughly 40 years. "Nineteen-year-old Jacob" will bring the people of the Roji to life on the stage of our Pit theatre.
