 Itoh
Kim is one of the artists garnering much public attention in today's dance
scene. Each of his performances furnishes a new topic of conversation, and
his demonstration of his ability at two past performances at the NNTT is
no exception. In the forthcoming production, he will give a repeat performance
of Close the door, open your mouth, whose 2001
premiere was highly acclaimed. The new work will also employ female ballet
dancers in its presentation. The world of Itoh Kim, who continues to take
on the challenge of breaking fresh ground, will fully unfold at the Playhouse.
Close the door, open your mouth
The setting is a closed space reminiscent of an empty room. A combination
of live chamber music, singing by countertenors, and dance develops in
this space. Music becomes dance, and dance becomes music ? kaleidoscopic
changes in communication between music and dance in which the two art
forms are intermingled on equal terms.
Flower History
She is born, crawls, walks, runs, stumbles, recovers, stretches up, jumps
down, takes a rest, falls in love, gets injured, experiences pain, real
pain, runs again to forget the pain, passes by somebody, stops to think,
is awakened, does it again, happily discovers that everything went considerably
well, convinces herself that she will follow this policy for some time,
turns around, recalls, looks into her partner's eyes calmly, is surprised
at her own wrinkled face reflected in her partner's eyes and believes
that there is only one path left for her. Bloom, bloom and bloom in all
your glory.
An ode to the process of death, which begins as soon as one is born; a
story peculiar to women.
