Power to Dance Further Ahead; Toward a Distant Place Shimmering with Light

The Contemporary Dance 2002/2003 Season of the New National Theatre, Tokyo will open with the appearance of Koike Hiroshi. The unique stage production created by Pappa TARAHUMARA, a theatre company led by Koike, is attracting public attention not only in Japan but also in other parts of the world. Transcending all the genres of dance, drama, art and music and leading theatrical performances to new dimensions, he has created the new work The Sound of Future SYNC. for the NNTT's Dance Planet series.

Last year, Pappa TARAHUMARA celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment and in December, it presented WD, a monumental work that combined its past theatrical achievements into one. Based on the Chapter of the Future, the last chapter of this great epic that visually examines the history of the 20th century, The Sound of Future SYNC. focuses only on the present and future of the epic. It attempts to find ways of living in the new century.

In the 21st century, the big keywords will probably be "chaos" and "order". Human beings may increasingly be forced to open their eyes to the threats of nature and consider natural phenomena important. It is not likely that the gap between the rich and poor and between the informed and uninformed will be reduced, nor is it likely that ethnic conflicts will be resolved. However, human beings make desperate efforts to try to look for some gleam of hope or other. It is also true that only from such efforts can something be seen.

What kind of hope should one cherish? How does one escape from chaos? An invisible interaction between chaos and hope will be depicted in an abundance of light and images.
