If You Dance, You Can Hear. If You Dance, You Can See. |
A series of works will be presented-one new, the other classic-by two Japanese
choreographers who have taken over the tradition of Japan's contemporary dance
scene and are currently active in dancing circles. In the past, Japanese dancers
struggled to learn Western dance, however, their efforts eventually have produced
a form of dance with a unique creativity. Now, Western dance in Japan is again
leading to a new age, across the stage of Playhouse, New National Theatre, Tokyo.

SHINRA |
The first half of a Japanese idiom "SHINRA-BANSHO", the term "SHINRA" means "a sequence of innumerable things" but it signifies a certain finite sequence of things rather than a sequence of all things.
SHINRA is stage director and choreographer Kimio Nosaka's latest and highly spiritual work.
It brings to light layers of joy, sorrow, satisfaction, loss, and other feelings that exist at the back of human memory or mind, and it strives to eventually revive the lost humanity of people today. |

Poetics of the Space |
Poetics of the Space was created in 1984 when stage director and choreographer Chizu Shoda was inspired by the work of French poet and philosopher Gaston Bachelard.
Poetics of the space was later chosen as one of 1984's five best artistic works by Tokyo Shimbun [newspaper], and in 1985, it was invited to the Athens Festival and other events in Greece, where it achieved success.
The masterpiece by Ms. Shoda, who is highly selective in her themes and is constantly pursuing abstract expression in her works, shows her true value, being renewed for this production at Playhouse, New National Theatre, Tokyo. |
