CINDERELLA This is an eternal love, even if the time is out.

Cinderella is at home alone when Fairy Godmother appears. Cinderella's ugly sisters have gone to a ball at the palace. A bit of magic turns a pumpkin into a splendid carriage and Cinderella's shabby clothes into a dazzling gown. Fairy Godmother then says to Cinderella, "Go to the ball, but you must return home before the clock finishes striking twelve."

Charles Perrault's fairy tale, Cinderella is familiar to people all over the world. New National Theatre, Tokyo presents Cinderella with a superb grand ballet on the version by Frederick Ashton, the choreographer representing the United Kingdom. In the Christmas season of Britain, plays for children, which are called "pantomime", are performed at theatres over the country and Cinderella is one of the popular repertoires. In Ashton's version, which has introduced such traditions, the two step-sisters are played by male dancers. Their witty and hilarious parts are incorporated into various scenes in the ballet, having high popularity every performance, as well as beautiful dream-like scenes such as the spell cast by Fairy Godmother, the ball at the palace, and Cinderella's encounter with the prince.
The forthcoming performance is featuring a cast of four gorgeous pairs, including guest dancers, Kumakawa Tetsuya and Viviana Durante.
This production will be a special present, highlighting the climax of year 2001. Please enjoy the NNTT's Cinderella.
