Background
Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) is the most popular of Rossini’s operas and one of the greatest masterpieces in opera buffa. A comic story unfolds at a delightful tempo to the buoyant music filled with a feeling of speed. Familiar numbers, including the famous overture, Largo al factotum (Make way for the factotum) and Una voce poco fa (The voice I heard a while ago), will be heard in succession. The performance promises to be entertaining in every sense of the word.
Synopsis
Count Almaviva falls in love at first sight with Rosina, the most beautiful girl in Seville.But he cannot easily approach her because her ward Doctor Bartolo, who is infatuated with her for her estate, interferes with his courtship.He seeks the help of Figaro, a barber and general factotum, and sneaks into Rosina’s house using every trick in the book, giving rise to great confusion.Thanks to Figaro’s quick wit, the Count escapes from the pinch but…
